Huawei makes a picture imperfect mistake

Huawei posted a photo on Google+ implying it was taken from the new P9, but that was not the case Huawei, a leading smartphone manufacturer, just a few months ago unveiled a new smartphone, the Huawei P9. The dual-camera on the back of this device is designed in partnership with Leica, and was highly praised within the industry for the stunning images it takes. However, in an effort to woo users to this feature, the company seems to have gone a bit overboard, posting a DSLR-shot photo on Goolge+, implying it was taken from the Huawei P9. Cameras are one of the most important aspects for a majority of smartphone enthusiasts these days. Therefore, each manufacturer is in the race to equip his device with one of the best shooters in the market. Huawei decided to adopt the same strategy and in collaboration with Leica packed in a high-end camera, with the aim to reinvent smartphone photography. However, things surely have changed for the Chinese giant, after Android Police dug into the properties of a recently posted photo on Google+, which was implied to be captured from a Huawei P9. The EXIF metadata revealed all the data about the photo, including exposure, ISO, and the camera it was shot from, which was Canon’s EOS 5D Mark III. Now the camera by Canon is identified in the pictures data is worth $2,600 with a $1,900 lens, which is clearly used for professional photography. This means a picture captured by this can never match the quality of the picture taken from a smartphone. Had it been the case, why would professionals shell out all the extra cash? Instead they will simply buy a Huawei P9 at only $475. “We managed to catch a beautiful sunrise with Deliciously Ella. The #HuaweiP9’s dual Leica cameras make taking photos in low light conditions like this a pleasure. Reinvent smartphone photography and share your sunrise pictures with us. #OO” The aforementioned is the description with the photo that was posted on Google. This shows that the company does not blatantly claim that the picture has been taken from a Huawei P9, but it does give clear hints that this latest handset by Huawei is responsible for this image. Also, now that the company has deleted the photo from the social network, it turns out that the information was misleading for the public. The Chinese giant has achieved the position of the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer. However, it still has a long way to go head-to- head with industry heavyweights, such as Apple and Samsung. The latest devices by Huawei, such as P9 and Nexus 6P, show that the company has embarked on a journey of innovation and ingenuity, but such misleading advertising may affect the company’s credibility. They may be able to attract some users, but considering the access general public has to information and technology these days, it is nearly impossible to trick them with such tactics. However, by taking down the photo, it appears the company no longer wants to mislead its users anymore. We can only hope that it will be more careful in the future before using such techniques to promote its products.
